Endowment Fund

With the receipt of an anonymous $20,000 donation in October 2000, the Foundation launched a drive to invest in the future and build an endowment fund.  In the first year, $129,000 was received.

In 2020, the Foundation accepted a generous bequest from the Estate of Jane P. French which pushed the Endowment over the $1-million mark, thus allowing annual distributions to supplement funding to our students.  We’re excited that the Endowment, established by our founding members, is now able to fulfill its promise of ensuring support for future generations.

All donations to the Foundation are tax deductible. The Foundation is a California nonprofit corporation with tax-exempt status under the California State Franchise Tax Board and under IRS rule 501(c)(3) — Tax ID #94-2907804.

Polly Bove, our outstanding superintendent for the last 15 years, recently announced her retirement.  The Foundation thanks Superintendent Bove for her deep commitment to the education of our students, and for her tireless work with the District since 1989, leading us to become one of the highest performing school districts in California.  Polly has served in a variety of roles, including deputy superintendent, executive director of educational services, district coordinator of student services and assistant principal of Homestead High School.  She’s been credited with creating special ed programs to help students transition to independent living, as well as increasing teacher retention through collaborative negotiations with the District’s collective bargaining units, and securing financial backing for the District through her strong support of parcel tax & bond measures.

Donations to the Polly Bove Commitment to Education Fund will honor Polly’s years of service by expanding our permanent Endowment Fund, which provides educational funding to our students annually – now and into the future.

Harry Bettencourt Memorial Fund

Harry Bettencourt made a difference in the lives of thousands of students in our District. A teacher, principal, and supporter of the Foundation, Harry was much loved and will be remembered by many.

The Harry Bettencourt Memorial Fund was set up to honor Harry’s memory and will augment our permanent Endowment Fund which disburses money each year to further the Foundation’s mission.  Harry and his family would be proud to know that donations to his fund will be helping students today and for years to come – a fitting way to continue Harry’s remarkable legacy of service to our community.
